Draped along two-thirds of the majestic mountain range, aptly named “the Himalayas,” meaning “The abode of Snow” in Sanskrit, lies the country of Nepal: home to most of the snowy peaks over 8000m, including Mount Everest – the highest point on earth.
This jagged landmass appears as a white crescent forming a formidable wall between the Tibetan Plateau and the Indian Subcontinent, flanked by other sub-Himalayan ranges of Mahabharata and Churia. It culminates in the tropical southern plains at its lowest point, a mere 65m above sea level.
This sheer drop in elevation within 150 km north to south at its narrowest point gives the country its steep mountainous terrain through which countless miles of tortuous undulating trails meander.
